Pertussis in Australia

Whooping Cough is a notifiable disease in all Australian States and Territories (the Public Health Unit must document all confirmed diagnosed cases).

Evidence suggests that the majority of cases of Whooping Cough never reach a medical professional and thus, the health department is only aware of a small proportion of cases!

 

So far this year (2015)…

 

• ≈ 3000 cases reported

• ≈ 1000 cases/month reported

 

However, true figures are unknown.
